"Exploring different materials has always been an essential part of the art making process for me. I go back and forth between painting, drawing, sculpture and ceramics. Sometimes I mix mediums and intersect 2 and 3 dimensions. My work is semi-autobiographical and sociopolitically informed. Most of these works are narration's with abstract figures, contrasting flat colors and surface treatments. These stylized figures are juxtaposed against patterns and textures to create an energetic composition with undefinable space - an illusion to an imaginary world. The majority of my clay sculptures are based on form, surface, texture and movement. The traditions of nonwestern aesthetics, traditional African art in particular, influence my sculptures. The root of my aesthetic probe resonates the social and cultural ties of my Caribbean background."
