A program of the New York City Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Arts for Transit encourages the use of public transit by presenting visual and performing arts projects in subway and commuter rail stations. As a part of the overall project, neighborhood artists working in various media are invited to compete for projects in nearby stations. Willet Hauser has been chosen to fabricate faceted stained glass panels based on the winning designs of many of these artists.
Scope of Project
16 faceted glass panels - each 36" X 36"
1" thick glass dalles, cut and faceted by hand, and set into a matrix of 3/4" epoxy
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) commissioned Maria Dominguez to design "El-Views" a permanent work for the Chauncey Street elevated station along the J/Z subway lines in Brooklyn, NY. Willet Hauser transformed sixteen original paintings from the artist into dazzling stain glass jewels.
